Frances Folk Gathering 2009 - Competitions Open for Entry

Dear Friends of the Frances Folk Gathering,

Well, while we’re still beavering on toward the Tenth Gathering (February 20-22 2009), we’d like to let you know about a couple of developments...

Competitions Open for Entry

Yes, the competitions are now open for entry. You can get the details from the website http://www.francesfolkgathering.com.au/. Click on anything to do with “competitions” and you’ll see it. Make sure you have a good look at the rules too! There are a few changes this year.

If you know someone who might like to enter, please print a copy of the entry form and the rules for them. They are especially formatted to be “printer-friendly” for exactly this purpose.

This year there is a separate entry form for individuals and another for bands. While you’re at it, you might like to take some copies to your local folk club or venue to pass around to others.

The BEST way to enter is on-line – that is, on the website. If you don’t have access to the Internet, get someone who does to print an entry form (and the rules) for you, or else write to us at Frances Musicianship Competition, PO Box 843, Brighton SA 5048 enclosing a stamped (55¢ now), self addressed envelope, and we’ll send you an entry form. Make sure you include the envelope or your form won’t arrive.

Post the completed form back to us at Musicianship Entry - Frances Folk Gathering PO Box 843, Brighton SA 5048.

After we receive your postal entry, we will go on-line and enter your details for you. Postal entries must be received by Friday February 13th. (No room for error here… after that, no-one checks the mailbox, we’ll be in Frances!).

Entries will close altogether 1 week before the Gathering. They will re-open briefly (9am to 11am) on the Saturday morning of the Gathering only for categories that have not yet filled up. Last Gathering (2008) there were only 3 places (out of over 60) available on the Saturday.

Best Bet? Enter on line!

Our Tenth Birthday

It’s shaping up to be a cracking good 10th birthday bash in ’09, and all your favourites will be there – the sessions, the Bush Dance, the Art Show, some top-line acts, and the workshops – plus a few special birthday celebrations that we’re keeping under our hat for the moment! If ever there was a Frances you shouldn’t miss, ’09 is the one!

Do something for us will you please?  Put your thinking hats on and think of folk who’ve been to any of the Gatherings over the years and ask them along – even if it’s only for a day.  Also, help push this newsletter to all you know – get folk to sign up – that way we know we can keep spreading the word!  As you’ll know, it’s dead easy via the website cues.

OK, that’s it for now. We’ll be in touch with you again before this wonderful event.

Looking forward to seeing you at our 10th birthday on Feb 20-22nd next – just 16 weeks to go!!!

All the best
Steve Keirl
